Our Staff includes:

Jan Betten -Certified Paralegal
Jan graduated from Redfield High School in Redfield, South Dakota.  She received an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from South Dakota State University in Brookings. In 1989 Jan attended the Paralegal Certificate Program at Black Hills State College, Spearfish, receiving a certificate with summa cum laude honors.  In 1992 Jan attained the Certified Paralegal designation from the National Association of Legal Assistants.

Jan began her career in the legal field working for a law firm in Rapid City, South Dakota.  For the past 28 years Jan has been employed with law firms in Spearfish, South Dakota, including Richards & Hood, P.C., Richards, Hood & Brady, P.C., Richards, Hood, Brady & Nies, P.C., Thomas E. Brady, P.C., and presently Brady Pluimer, P.C.  Jan works primarily in the areas of litigation, real estate and business law.

Jan has been involved in the South Dakota Paralegal Association, having served on the Public Relations and Ethics Committees as well as serving as Secretary and Chairperson of the Education Committee.  She has been a past Chairperson of the Ethics Committee.

Jan has served as a parent representative at the Spearfish Elementary School, has been active in the Spearfish Parents Who Care and was the Secretary of the Spearfish Spartan Booster Club.  Jan also participates in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Program.

Jo Ann Hanson, Certified Paralegal

Jo Ann graduated from Philip High School in Philip, SD.  Jo Ann received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Black Hills State College in Spearfish in 1987.  In 1989 Jo Ann attended the Paralegal Certificate Program at Black Hills State College in Spearfish, receiving a certificate with summa cum laude honors.  In 1992 Jo Ann attained the Certified Paralegal designation from the National Association of Legal Assistants.

Jo Ann’s legal career began in Philip, SD in 1976, working for Ralph Kemnitz.  Since 1987 Jo Ann has been worked for law firms in Spearfish, SD including Harlan A. Schmidt, Seward & Odenbach, P.C., and presently Brady Pluimer, P.C.  Jo Ann works primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate, real estate, and business law.

Renae Tysdal - Professional Legal Secretary
Renae graduated from Gregory High School, Gregory, South Dakota.  She received her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and a Minor Degree in Computers from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota.  Renae was previously employed in the insurance field.

Renae has been employed with the Brady Pluimer, P.C. Law Firm since October, 2001.  She attained her Professional Legal Secretary designation in March of 2005.

Luanne Rummel - Legal Secretary
Luanne graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota.  She received her Associate of Arts degree as a Legal Secretary from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota.

Luanne was employed as a Legal Secretary in Lead and Spearfish, South Dakota from 1989 to 2002 with the Fuller & Tellinghuisen Law Firm.  In 2002 she became employed with the Richards Law Firm in Spearfish, South Dakota and remained there until joining the Brady Pluimer Law Firm in 2006.

Wayne Gilbert, B.S., J.D.                                                                                  

Wayne was born and raised in Belle Fourche, SD. He graduated from Black Hills State College in 1972, and the University of South Dakota Law School in 1975. Wayne is part of our non-attorney staff working in the areas of research and investigation. He lives in Rapid City, where he is active in community theatre. Wayne and his wife, Kris Thielen, have three children.
