Graduate of Spearfish High School, 1970.  Attended University of Wyoming, Black Hills State University and University of South Dakota, receiving Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, 1976.   Graduated University of South Dakota School of Law, receiving Juris Doctorate, 1978.

South Dakota Bar Association; South Dakota Trial Lawyer's Association. Admitted to practice in all courts in the State of South Dakota, United States District Court, and United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
